This past Saturday, I had to privilege of shooting Brent + Marta’s beautiful Newburyport wedding at Atkinson Common and reception at VASA Waterfront Kitchen & Bar in Salisbury. Newburyport is a beautiful coastal town in Northeast Massachusetts and a fantastic backdrop for weddings and portraits. I’ve shot plenty of portrait sessions in and around Newburyport, including at Atkinson Common, but there was something even more special about shooting at wedding here. From the ceremony, the bride and groom and I met up at Cashman Park and walked out onto the boat docks to take some portraits with the Merrimack River behind them and then headed across the Rt. 1 bridge to Salisbury and VASA that also overlooks the Merrimack. The reception was in a private room in the back of VASA. The room was beautiful and absolutely flooded with light which made for beautiful lit photographs throughout the afternoon.
This is a second marriage for both the bride and groom, and the request from them both with respect to portraits was simple and classic. Marta did her homework and knew what she was looking for in her portraits, which made my job so much easier when it came time to shoot. The shots on the wooden bench were entirely Marta’s idea and came out just beautifully. One of the things I’ve quickly come to love about shooting weddings is capturing the small details and wistful moments that may be forgotten throughout the course of the day. Being able to help tell the story of the day and provide evidence of the joy that existed is a great honor.
There was an overwhelming amount of love pouring out from everyone who attended. The minister offered a wonderful ceremony, family members read from 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 in both English and Spanish. It was a beautiful afternoon for a beautiful declaration of love that I was so grateful to witness.
